Full Tour Description

This Grenada garden tour offered by Caribbean Horizons offers an immersive insider experience, with the chance to explore a private tropical garden and then enjoy breakfast with the owner and the garden’s inquisitive resident birds. Tucked away in the leafy neighbourhood of Morne Jaloux, just a mile from historic Fort Frederick, is the lush and inviting Smithy’s Garden. Known for its wild feel, the gently sloping garden is full of fruit trees, orchids, exotic flowers and more. The owner Anne and her daughter Claire are keen florists and have contributed to Grenada’s flower arranging teams in Cincinnati and London. Following a tour of the garden, Anne will treat you to a flower arranging demonstration and then invite you to join her for a delicious local Grenadian breakfast. Start with exotic fresh fruits picked directly from the garden. Depending on what’s in season this might include, papaya, melon, guava, mango, sugar apple, orange, sapodilla and pineapple. Next up, tuck into local breakfast favourites like saltfish souse, smoked herring, salt ham, toasted cassava, scrambled eggs, fried and baked bakes (a type of local bread), coconut bun, homemade plum jam and more, served up with tea, coffee, lemongrass tea and fresh juices. Next, head to Westerhall Rum Distillery and Museum to learn about the production of Grenadian rum. This historic estate is filled with artefacts and equipment for rum production that dates back hundreds of years. Sample the different blends of aged rum produced by the distillery, and stock up on bottles to take home with you as gifts and souvenirs.
