Full Tour Description
This fascinating Grenada art and craft tour offered by Caribbean Horizons offers a comprehensive overview of the island’s art scene and the chance to meet artists themselves. It’s a must for serious art collectors, visitors looking for unique gifts and souvenirs, and those who just want to learn about Grenadian arts and crafts. Start at Art Fabrik, a batik workshop and boutique where you can watch the designers and craftspeople at work creating one-of-a-kind colourful fabrics that are then made into beach wraps, dresses, shirts and more – all on sale in the boutique. Next door at the House of Chocolate, learn about Grenada’s organic tree-to-bar chocolate production, with artisanal chocolate, beauty products like cocoa butter and many other gift items on sale. Take in the beautiful Georgian architecture of St George’s, including an ornate wrought iron veranda on a waterfront building – previously an exclusive men’s club for the sugar barons and plantation owners in the 1700s. The tour then heads to Grand Anse where you’ll see work from some of the island’s best contemporary artists on display at the Susan Mains Art Gallery. Large canvas paintings can be rolled for easy transport, and there are many bargain gifts on offer. Browse through the art or enjoy a refreshment in the shopping centre. The tour then continues to Art House 473, in the village of Calliste – a multi-use building that combines studio, workshop and gallery space. Here you’ll meet artists Susan and Asher Mains who will chat with you about the local art scene and Grenada’s participation at the acclaimed Venice Biennale.
