Full Tour Description

This unique historical tour unveils hidden anthropological sites scattered around Grenada. ‘Rock art’ is a fascinating form of artistic expression – for thousands of years humans have engraved, etched, painted or otherwise physically changed the surfaces of rocks and cave walls. On this fascinating tour your Caribbean Horizons guide will evoke images of the rituals that took place at the sites you visit, and you’ll learn about traditions and customs still practised today that come from Grenada’s Amerindian, West African and European settlers. Start at the Grenada National Museum in St. George’s, with Amerindian artifacts and other displays bringing the island’s history to life. Then drive along the scenic west coast, stopping at an Amerindian sharpening stone near the National Stadium. The tour continues, visiting petroglyphs at various sites including Duquesne Bay, Victoria, Mt. Rich and Grand Etang. The exciting search takes you to beaches, towns, along rivers, into the rainforest and even to an abandoned airstrip, Pearls, which was once the site of an Amerindian village. You’ll also stop at the chocolate shop at the historic Belmont Estate to stock up on sweet treats and will have the opportunity to buy other traditional foods along the way.
